The channel view
The whole channel on one screen: its plugins on the left, the selected plugin's window on the right, and every channel one click away along the bottom.
The CHANNEL view is the whole channel on one screen: its plugins in order on the left, the selected plugin's window on the right, and a row of all your channels along the bottom to jump between them. Open it with CHANNEL on the top bar or ⌘2, with OPEN on a mixer strip, or by clicking a plugin tile in the mixer.
- 1The channel's name row: previous / next, colour, icon and name, BYPASS, the channel menu
- 2Routing: input and output, with small meters
- 3The chain: one row per plugin, top to bottom in signal order
- 4SEND: this channel's New York buses, and the channel's total latency below
- 5The selected plugin: its name, SIDECHAIN (when it has a sidechain input) and maker
- 6BYPASS, PIN and the X for this plugin
- 7The plugin's window, fitted to the space
- 8The channel switcher: every channel, click one to open it
The left side: the channel#
At the top is the channel's name row:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| ‹ / › | Previous / next channel (also ← / →) |
| Colour chip ▾ | The colour menu |
| Scribble strip | Number, icon and name. Click the icon spot for the icon menu (a dashed + when there's no icon yet); click the name to rename it |
| BYPASS | Bypasses the whole channel (⇧B) |
| ≡ | The channel menu: chain presets, Same chain as, Remove all plugins, Keep in time with the PA, Duplicate channel, Delete channel |
Under it, the routing line: IN 1 → OUT 1 (with ST for stereo), with small input and output meters along its bottom edge. A New York bus reads for example IN 3 sends.
Click the routing line to change it. A small editor opens with two lists, Input (from the interface) and Output (back to the interface), each with a MONO | STEREO switch, so a channel can come in mono and go out stereo. The lists use your interface's own channel names. Channels the interface hasn't switched on are marked (off); outputs a musician's in-ears use are greyed out and marked with the musician's name.
Then comes the chain with its + ADD button: every plugin is a row with a preview of its window, its latency, its CPU load and an on/off switch. Everything about it - dragging, bypass, copying, presets - is on the chain page.
Below the chain are the channel's New York sends (see New York buses), and at the very bottom the LATENCY line: how much this channel delays its signal, and why.
The right side: the plugin#
Click a plugin in the chain and its window opens on the right, as big as fits. The header above it has the plugin's name in big letters (red when it's missing, faint when bypassed), the maker, and on the right BYPASS (B), PIN and X (remove, ⌫). A SIDECHAIN button appears only for plugins that have a sidechain input - see sidechain.
How the plugin is sized, opened in its own window or pinned is on the plugin window page.
When there's nothing to show, the panel says so: NO PLUGINS ON THIS CHANNEL with an ADD PLUGIN button, or SELECT A PLUGIN IN THE CHAIN. A plugin that isn't installed on this Mac shows a note that its settings are kept in the session, so nothing is lost.
The channel switcher#
Along the bottom runs a row of scribble strips, one per channel, in the same order and sections as in the mixer. The open channel has a white frame, a bypassed channel a red one, and New York buses a yellow frame with an NY pill. With many channels the strips get narrower, then the row scrolls.
| You do | What happens |
|---|---|
| Click a strip | Opens that channel |
| Right-click | The full channel menu for that channel |
| Double-click | Rename it |
| Drag a strip sideways | Moves the channel (inside its section) |
| Drag a plugin from the chain onto a strip | Moves the plugin to the end of that channel; hold ⌥ to copy it |
+ MONO and + STEREO on the right add a channel (see channels).
Moving around with the keys#
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| ← / → | Previous / next channel |
| ↑ / ↓ | Previous / next plugin in the chain |
| B | Bypass the selected plugin |
| ⇧B | Bypass the whole channel |
| ⌘T | Add a plugin after the selected one |
| ⌫ | Remove the selected plugin |
| ⌘⇧W | Open the selected plugin in its own window |
| ↩ | Rename the channel |
| ⌘1 / ⌘2 | Mixer / channel view |
The plugin keys (B, ↑ / ↓, ⌘C, ⌘V, ⌫...) only work in the CHANNEL view. The full list is on shortcuts.
