Modules: FX, IEM and WING
Shadow Rack is one app, and what you buy decides which of its parts are switched on.
Shadow Rack is one app. What you buy decides which of its parts are switched on: Rack FX, Rack IEM, the WING Extension, or any mix of them. When you buy another part later, it switches on in the same app after a restart – nothing to download.
In Setup > Licence the parts are called Shadow Rack FX, Shadow Rack IEM and Shadow Rack WING Extension.
What each part switches on since 0.5#
| Part | Switches on | Without it |
|---|---|---|
| Rack FX | Rack channels with your plugins: the MIXER and CHANNEL views, New York buses, sidechain, chain presets, BYPASS ALL. | No rack channels. If a session has channels, they stay in its file untouched and come back with Rack FX. |
| Rack IEM | The IEM layer – MUSICIANS, MIX, SOURCES – and the in-ear engine that plays the mixes. | No IEM layer, and no in-ear engine is started. |
FX, IEM or both#
- Rack FX and Rack IEM: the top bar has an FX | IEM switch. ⌘1 and ⌘2 go to the rack, ⌘3 to the in-ears.
- Rack FX only: no layer switch – the whole app is the rack.
- Rack IEM only: no layer switch – the app is always the in-ears, the logo reads SHADOW RACK IEM, and the in-ear engine starts with the app. There's no BYPASS ALL, since there are no plugins.
- The WING Extension needs Rack FX or Rack IEM. It's an add-on to one of them or both. A licence with only the WING Extension can't open the app: the activation window says Nothing to open yet.
Switching a part off on this Mac#
You can switch a part you own off on one Mac and keep it on the others. The usual reason is a Mac that only does monitors: you switch Rack FX off there, and nothing on that Mac reminds anyone of plugins. You don't lose anything – the part stays in your licence, and you can switch it back on any time.
- 1How many parts this licence has
- 2A part you own: its switch
- 3Switched off, not restarted yet: Off after a restart
- 4Not in this licence: Get it opens the shop
- 5Restart now – the change counts from the next start
- 6Check again – when you've bought something new
- Open Setup > Licence (⌘,, then LICENCE).
- Click the switch of the part. Its line turns yellow: Off after a restart (or On after a restart).
- A yellow bar appears: Switched on or off: Shadow Rack starts with it after a restart. Click Restart now.
- Shadow Rack asks Restart Shadow Rack? – The audio stops for a few seconds while it starts again. Your rack is saved. Click Restart.
Shadow Rack quits and opens again by itself, with the parts the way you set them. A part that's switched off says Switched off on this Mac.
Rules:
- The switches belong to this Mac, not to a session or your account. Another Mac with the same licence keeps its own.
- Nothing changes until the restart. If you flip a switch by mistake, flip it back – the bar goes away.
- Rack FX and Rack IEM are never both off. One of them always has to run. When you switch off the last one, the other comes back on; if you don't own the other, the one you clicked stays on.
Bought a new part#
- Buy it at shadowrack.eu with the same account.
- In Setup > Licence click Check again (it says Checking... for a moment).
- The new part gets a switch and the line On after a restart. Click Restart now when it suits you.
Even without Check again, Shadow Rack asks about your licence at every start, so the new part turns up by itself too. Then it needs one more restart to switch on – what Shadow Rack learns at a start always waits for the next one, so nothing changes under your hands during a show.
