Versions and updates
What the three numbers in a version mean, and which updates are safe to install right before a show.
Every Shadow Rack has a version like 0.5.0 and a build number. Here's what they mean – and the one rule that matters on show day.
Which version do I have?#
Open Setup > About (⌘,, then About). At the top it says the version and when it was built, for example Version 0.5.0 and Built 5 Oct 2026, 02:10, build 228. The build number grows with every build, so it tells two copies of the same version apart – put it in any message to us about a problem.
The three numbers#
| Part | Grows when | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Patch (last) | only fixes: nothing new, nothing moved | 0.5.0 -> 0.5.1 |
| Minor (middle) | new features, things look or work differently | 0.5.1 -> 0.6.0 |
| Major (first) | a big step; from 1.0 on, a new major version may be a paid upgrade | 1.4.2 -> 2.0.0 |
- 0.x means before the launch. 1.0.0 is the first version on sale.
- Test versions carry a word: 0.6.0-beta.1, then 0.6.0-rc.1, then 0.6.0.
- Your licence is for life: every update within its major version is free.
Updating before a show#
These docs and versions#
Every page of these docs says which version it was written for – the green Written for v0.5.0 under its title. When the app moves on and a page hasn't been checked yet, the mark turns yellow, a note on top says so, and a yellow dot shows next to the page in the menu. The page is probably still right; just check the changelog for what changed since.
A heading with since 0.4 next to it describes something that arrived in that version.
